  1. GA-RANKUWA QUEENS SLAM-CHOKE VIKINGS

Ga-Rankuwa has convincingly handed Vikings their second loss of the season by walloping 4-1 at Ga-Rankuwa Stadium this past Saturday. Vikings, who have been enjoying a streak of wins, left the pitch with tails between their legs.

They even refused to shake hands with their victorious opponents after they were made to taste their own medicine. It was a very bitter pill to swallow. They had hoped to stretch their lead in the league log.

Now, the University of Pretoria Ladies are breathing on their neck with a difference of one point, although The Blues(Vikings) are one game behind amaTuks.

Games are drying up as quiet a number of teams are left with 5 games to complete the league. It is very interesting to see which team will be crowned champions come 02 October 2022.

    Mathematically speaking,
    1.Vikings(61)
    2. University of Pretoria(60),
    3.Mamelodi Xi Stars (56)
    4.Ga-Rankuwa Queens (55)
    5. Pulltogether(50)
    6. Junior peacemakers (47)and
    7. Entokozweni (46 points)
all the above teams can still be crowned champions.

  2. This season marks a total different ball game on the Safa Tshwane Women Regional League. From the 16 teams last season (2022), the league champions, Vikings Ladies got promoted to SASOL and Akasia Ladies and Hamitown Royals got relegated.

As teams remained 13, 7 teams from LFA’s got promoted to make 20 teams for 2023. The league has been divided into two streams:
Stream A is made of teams from ( Bronkhorstpruit, Mamelodi, Pretoria city and Laudium) East,Central and Western Pretoria
Stream B composes of Northern Pretoria (Ga-Rankuwa, Mabopane, Soshanguve and Stinkwater/Hammanskraal)

Two teams who win their respective streams will log horns to determine the champion, who will further be engaged in SASOL playoffs. Stream A seem to have more advantage as only two got promoted to join the 8 old guards. Stream B has only 5 old guards and were joined by 5 newly promoted teams.

Nevertheless, it is suicidal to look down on newly promoted teams. Some old campaigners can attest to that. We have seen last season’s newly promoted teams claiming victory over old campaigners.

We also saw strong teams in the previous season(2021) performing below par and dark horses surprised many. In conclusion, football has no “therefore “. Let the best team win the 2023 campaign.
